"Have you tried some porn?"
Synopsis
Get ready to groove in this hilarious comedy full of sex and superheroes, starring Mike Wytrykus and Aaron Brown. Through bad times and worse, Clark (Wytrykus) and Lois (Malisa Edwards) have always been there for each other. Now, Clark's so busy saving the world as Superman that he no longer has the energy to perform in the bedroom. Lois needs some pleasing and the Man of Steel just isn't up to the task. It's up to Clark's old pal, Tony Stark, aka the Invincible Iron Man, to save the day. What starts as a quick intro to the world of porn, ends in a fight to the death as Superman must battle to win back the affection of his spurned lover - even if she has been with 20 other crimefighters. A lascivious comedy that's sure to offend, How Superman Got His Groove Back overflows with lust, humor and violence.
Production Notes
- Originally conceived as a feature length follow-up to Hulk Smash Everybody entitled This Looks Like a Job for Superman, which featured Kal-El doing odd jobs
to pass the time in a crime-free Metropolis.
- Reinvisioned as a short film for submission to Wizard Magazine's second annual
Direct-to-Video contest.
- Initial treatment featured an abandoned sub-plot of Superman's many failed suicide
attempts, as well as an early version of the pizza delivery gag from Poker Night.
- Produced for a budget of about one hundred dollars, split three ways among the
producers.
- Pre-production consisted mainly of a trip to Kay-Bee Toys and Menards. All other
materials used were on-hand items found around the producers' homes.
- Dialogue of all male characters was completed before any filming took place.
This consisted of hours of recording multiple takes to have plenty of options in the
editing process.
- Principle photography was completed in a single day, six hours spent filming a
little over an hour of footage. Filmed on a standard Hi-8 video camcorder.
- Dialogue for Lois Lane (provided by Malisa Edwards) was recorded in a half-hour on
a Saturday afternoon during post-production.
- Editing was done with Vegas Video on a Dell Dimension XPS T500 over the course of
three weeks. Analogue video capture was done with Pinnacle Studios DC10 Plus.
- Total production time (script stage to post-production) was about a month, from
early March to mid April of 2001.
- Would have won the Direct-to-Video contest if not for excessive adult content.
Lost to Zeb Well's Real World: Metropolis.
- The "Have you tried some porn?" scene was featured in a clip-reel of
the contest's best runners-up at the Wizard World Chicago 2001 Fan Awards.
- The original version submitted to the Wizard contest was academy standard full frame (4:3). A
matted letterbox (16:9) version was included on a CD-ROM available for free
from the Rabid Mongoose table in Artists' Alley at Wizard World Chicago 2002. The matting was done to cover up certain filmming mistakes. This version can also be found on YouTube and other viral video sites. The version on this website is a newly remastered edition that restores its original 4:3 aspect ratio while digitally removing the filmming errors.
